Volume I encompasses the entirety of the 1865 Quartermaster Manual, as well as the 1866 Quartermaster Photographs that have never before been published as a complete set. Editors Earl J. Coates and Frederick C. Gaede also include a number of photographs carefully compiled and captioned to provide a more thorough and visual understanding of the elements described in the Manual.

Gaede and Coates present to us in Volume II a complete listing of over 250 inspectors from 1861 to 1865 as well as a list of over 4000 contracts that were made during the Civil War. Also included are several samples from a variety of different companies that were frequently contracted out with, as well as samples of the inspector marks and how they play an integral role in identifying Quartermaster relics. Volume II will include an appendix of additional information.
